The 6-hour MBA is for everyone in the work place It de-mystifies management and challenges current assumptions In order for organizations to achieve their potential they must put in place systems that enable their employees to reach their potential The current assumption by many organizations is that employees are paid to do what they are told this prevents the organization from availing itself to the full potential of the worker The 6-hour MBA challenges this and introduces the concept of leadership In easy to understand language it explains the fundamental and critical concepts of management so that they can be understood by all
The 6Hour MBA Louis A Coutts 9788183223409 Books
An interesting book for people in competitive industries (isnt that everyone nowdays in this global economy?).I actually wanted a nice summary of the mechanistic parts of the MBA such as cost-accounting, risk management etc. but instead I found this book is much more high level and philosphical.
It basically discusses workforce planning, organisational structure and culture, so that the business can ellicit maximum descritionary effort from its people rather than simply extracting minimum begrudging compliance in return for wages. This human side was my management degree speciality so I was a little dissappointed in the book title but still found it a great and refreshing read about making sure you get the most out of your people. Much of the framework for good people management comes back to Maslow's hierarchy (with a bit of MBWA thrown in) in that 'an organisation is a collection of people, and a person is a collection of needs'. If you dont attend to your peoples needs (and its not wages!) then they wont be in a postion to attend to the organistion (and hence you wont be competitive). As a famous General Patton quote goes: dont tell your people what to do, tell them what you want and let them amaze you with their ingenuity in achieving it!
A good read but I would have thought a different title (or sub-title) that reflects the focus on the human element of business would be more appropriate?

The 6Hour MBA Louis A Coutts 9788183223409 Books Reviews
The 6 Hour MBA has certainly changed the way I think about my business. It converts management theory to something practical. It's easy see that Lou Coutts has worked at the coalface and knows what's important.
The 6 Hour MBA has exposed me to management theories that I haven't really thought about, whether it be the philosophy behind why we are in business, to the strategies in growing goodwill. It has given me an armoury of management tools with which to deal with the regular challenges of business life.
This is a great book for anyone in business who wants to understand and implement cutting edge management ideas.
