Sweet short story about a widow with two young sons who goes west as a mail-order bride so that her children will be taken care of. Her prospective husband has never been married and is not sure he can be a good dad.
Such good writing. This story has the mama bear watching over her cubs so closely she is not seeing how she herself has been keeping them from growing with her smothering. Good correlation in how we can focus so much on our own view and not see the whole picture.
I was originally attracted to the book because my name is Linda. When I first started reading it, I must admit that I didn't like "Linda" very much. I was hoping she would change and the end made me very happy indeed.
I love this genre and no one does it better than Emily Woods. A short book perfect for a single read.
Being a mail order bride is scared enough, but taking three children into the situation is daunting. Would her new husband be good to the children? Would he be too strict or even abusive? These are the questions that swelled upon Linda to the point of obsession. A very good story.
Linda struggles to care for her boys after her husband's death. She decides her only option is to become a mail order bride. She is unhappy with her new husband for having the boys do chores and telling them what they can do. Linda is thinking about going back to the city. Will she go or stay?
This was not only a sweet story but the author brought into it the Biblical view of what a family should look like--the order of authority, a good method of disciplining children, a right marriage relationship, all woven into a delightful story.
